Clinical Research in Women's Health

The Highlow Study

As part of our Careers in STEMM, we interviewed Prof Fionnuala Ní Ainle, Consultant Hematologist, and Prof Jennifer Donnelly, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, on the HIGHLOW study, a randomised controlled trial that looked at the prevention of blood clots in pregnancy, for women who had a previous blood clot. The results of this study have just been published on The Lancet.

“This is a groundbreaking study – we now have excellent high-quality evidence as the best way of preventing blood clots in pregnant women during and shortly after pregnancy. This study has the potential to touch the lives of women and their families around the world”  Prof. Donnelly
