During Science Week 2022 we were joined by our guest panelist Dr. Edgar Mocanu to answer all of your questions on infertility!

Dr Edgar Mocanu

Consultant in Obstetrics & Gynaecology

Dr Mocanu’s main interests are male and female infertility, the genetics of male infertility and reproductive surgery. He was appointed as a consultant obstetrician & gynaecologist to the Rotunda in 2005. He holds infertility clinics in the main hospital and also in the Rotunda Private Clinics. He is involved with the practical and theoretical teaching of students attached to the Rotunda Hospital.

Dr Edgar Mocanu qualified in 1993 from Cluj-Napoca Medical University, Romania. He trained in general obstetrics and gynaecology in Cluj-Napoca, Romania and the Coombe Women’s Hospital, St. James’s Hospital, Rotunda Hospital and National Maternity Hospital in Ireland.

He holds a certificate of specialist training (CST) in obstetrics and gynaecology and is registered in the specialists register of the Medical Council. He is sub-specialty trained in reproductive medicine and surgery under the guidance of the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists in London. His sub-specialty training was based at the HARI Unit where he worked with Professor Robert F Harrison. As part of this training he also worked at the Mater Hospital, St. Vincent’s Hospital, Tallaght Hospital and the Coombe Women’s Hospital.
